Frank Malcolm McColl, 77, died peacefully at his home in Saratoga Springs, NY on the morning of Tuesday, December 8.
Born into a large family in Grand Rapids, MI, Frank lived for a few years in Florida before relocating and spending the majority of his life in Clifton Park, NY.
Frank was a proud alumnus of Catholic Central High School in Troy and received his undergraduate degree from St Michael's College in Vermont, later doing graduate work at Siena College in Loudonville, NY.
Following a brief stint with the Canada Dry soft drinks company in the late 60s, Frank moved with his young family to New York to take up a position in the Office of the Comptroller for the State of New York, where he would do tax-related database programming and management for almost 30 years before retiring in the early 2000s. In his retirement, Frank took a position as a tax preparer for H&R Block offices in Naples, FL and Clifton Park; his great success in this role eventually led him to become an instructor for other tax preparers at Block.
Frank was active in his local Catholic parishes and with his beloved Catholic High alumni association throughout his life. A keen horse racing fan, Frank also enjoyed volunteering for a time as a tour guide at the race track in Saratoga, where he and his wife settled later in his retirement. Frank was an active golfer for many years, as well as a dedicated golf spectator, amateur train enthusiast, and devoted student of history.
Frank is survived by Joan Marie Jason McColl, his wife of 55 years; his three children (Daniel McColl of Rexford, NY; Christopher McColl of Tamaqua, PA; and Kimberly Florek of Chapel Hill, NC); and his five grandchildren (Mae, Ian, Beatrice, Abigail and Ripley).
A funeral mass will be held at St Clement's Roman Catholic Parish in Saratoga and will be followed by burial service at St Mary's Cemetery in Waterford, NY; mass and burial will be for family only. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Frank's name to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (tunnel2towers.org). Inquiries regarding funeral arrangements may be directed to New Comer Cremations and Funerals in Colonie.
