LOUDONVILLE- Frank J. Monroe, 87, passed away on Saturday May 19, 2007 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. Frank was born in Brooklyn and was the son of the late James and Marie Monroe. He was a US Navy veteran attached to the Seabees serving during WWII. Upon returning, Frank got his degree at Syracuse University going nights and weekends and supporting his family by working as a master cabinet maker.. He made beautiful heirloom clocks that will be passed down through generations.
Frank became a financial analyst with General Electric at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory for 31 years, retiring in 1983. Frank enjoyed reading, bowling, golfing and curling. He was a valued member of the Albany Curling Club due to his curling and handyman abilities. Frank volunteered his time and expertise willingly and was an appreciated member of this organization.
In April of this year, Frank was predeceased by his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth C. Doty Monroe. He is survived by his children, Robert and his wife Joan Monroe of Latham, Brian Monroe of Amsterdam, Joan and her husband Scott Reich of Clifton Park and Katherine and her husband Tom Schultz of Westfield IN; his brother Charles Monroe of Rome, NY; his sister Alice McGinn of Florida; his grandchildren, Robert Monroe Jr., Kenneth Monroe, Scott Monroe and Christine Reich and four great grandchildren .
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the third floor staff at the Eddy Heritage House for the care and concern they gave to Frank.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 10:00 at NewComer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden.
