Albany- Frank Topino Sr., 91, passed away on July 3, 2024. Born in Siderno Marina, Calabria, Italy he was the son of the late Vinceslao and Angela Topino. Frank is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josepine Topino.
Frank came to America in 1951 staying with his family friend Angelina Gimondo and her sons Sal, Jimmy and Joe. Angelina treated him like a son and the boys thought of him as a brother. Frank resided in Albany for the rest of his life. He came from a big family and had seven brothers and three sisters who lived all over the world. Frank worked in restaurants when he arrived and then became a master chef. He cooked for dignitaries such as the former NYS Governors and United States Presidents . In 1953 Frank enlisted in the United States Army for two years stationed in Germany. While serving, Frank was able to visit his family in Italy. When he was honorably discharged he returned to America as a chef. In 1959, Frank went back to Italy where he married his wife Josephine and after three months they returned to the United States. Over the next few years they had three children; Joseph, Frank and David. Frank was a member of the Sons of Italy and the American Legion. In his younger years he enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and gardening. Frank also loved the old style way of making homemade wine with his family. It was a joy of his to make and gift to his family around the holidays. Over the years, Frank was able to visit his family in Italy and Australia.
In addition to his wife Josephine, Frank is survived by his three sons, Joseph Topino (Margarita Muniz), Frank Topino Jr., and David Topino (Stephanie). He is also survived by his two grandchildren Salvatore and Vicenzo Topino and their mother. He will also be missed by his brother Nicola Topini (Rina).
Frank lived a long and happy life and enjoyed being with his family.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Rebecca and staff at the Shaker Place for the love and care given to Frank and his family.
Public calling hours will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 11am-1pm at New Comer Cremation & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY 12205.
A service will begin at 1pm at the funeral home with entombment following at Memory Gardens.
