ALBANY – Franklyn L. Snyder, 89, of Albany passed away on July 3, 2011 while visiting family in North Carolina. He was born August 1, 1921 in Endicott, NY and was the son of the late Bessie and Frank Snyder.
Frank served in the US Army Air Force as a navigator during WWII. A 2nd Lieutenant with the 413 squadron, they were shot down over Berlin, Germany and he was a Prisoner of War. After 14 months of captivity, he was freed May 1, 1945. Frank is a Purple Heart recipient.
Frank graduated from Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations in 1949. Frank worked in several industrial management capacities, eventually landing in Albany where he worked for the Building Industry Employers of NYS as Managing Director. He retired in 1987.
Frank was an avid reader and golfer. He loved traveling, watching movies, playing cards, challenging board games and Saratoga horse races.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Nancy Snyder. He is the father of Linda (Donald) Simpson and Robert (Teri) Snyder. Stepfather of Gregory (Christine) Hilt and Jeffrey (Daphne) Hilt. He is the cherished grandfather of Brenda Ordway (Daniel Trumble), James (Judy) Simpson, and Bentley (Sarah) Simpson, Elizabeth and Ryan Snyder, Quinn, Olivia , Tessa and Eva Hilt. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Monday morning at 9am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie and then process to the Gerald B.H. Solomon National VA Cemetery, Schuylerville where Military Honors will be held at 10:00.
