Fred Muhlfelder, Jr., 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Community Hospice Inn at St. Peters with his loving family by his side.
Fred was born in Albany and was the son of the late Fred Muhlfelder, Sr. and Hannah Muhlfelder.
He was a graduate of the Albany Boys Academy and Syracuse University, class of 1951,Fred worked at F.C. Huyck and Sons, Mohawk Brush Company, and President of Transeal LTD for 50 years. During the Korean War, he served in the Army as a First Lieutenant and was an Artillery instructor.
He was a Boy Scout Leader, President of Albany-Colonie Kiwanis, President of Albany County BOCES, Treasurer of Colonie Reformed Church and Daycare, Deacon and Elder at Colonie, Bloomingrove and Delmar Reformed Churches. As President of NYS Parents of Hearing Impaired Children, he was instrumental in initiating legislation to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. For the past 15 years, he loved his Ambassadorship to Albany International Airport.
Fred leaves behind his beloved wife of 62 years, Jane Muhlfelder, his devoted daughters Cindy (Mark) Ackerle, Lynn (Paul) Kotecki, grandsons, David Russo and Paul Kotecki, Jr., sister-in-law, Karen (Andrew) Stafford, brother-in-law, Stephen Cantrell, niece, Patricia Mann and nephew, Joseph (Sally) Mann.He is predeceased by both of his parents and his sister, Helen Mann.
A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens, 983 Watervliet Shaker Road, Colonie, NY on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Delmar Reformed Church, 386 Delaware Avenue, Delmar, NY 12054 in Fred's memory.
