ALBANY- Frederic "Bill" W. Hoit Jr., 83, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.

Bill was born in Schenectady, NY to the late Frederic Hoit and Sadie Dickson on September 14, 1933. Bill served his country honorably in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. After the war he travelled all over the country. He spent time living in Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. In 1980 Bill moved back to Schenectady, NY where he met his wife, Diane Hoit. They were married for over 35 years. They worked together for the Schenectady School District at Washington Irving Educational Center. Bill will be remembered for his love of golf, boating on the Hudson River, and aviation. He will also be remembered for his sense of humor, and his love of gummy bears and Boston Cream Pie.

Bill is predeceased by his beloved step-father, Raymond C. Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane A. Hoit, his children, Kate A. Hoit, Jeffrey Hoit, Timothy Hoit, and Frederic Hoit, his daughter-in-laws, his grandchildren, and his great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd, Albany, NY 12205, on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bill's name to The Albany County Nursing Home, E Unit, or the Activities Department, 780 Albany Shaker Road, Albany, NY 12211.
