COLONIE – Frederick A. Caulfield, 89, passed away on March 25th surrounded by his family. He was born to the late Helen (Kirk) and John T. Caulfield on April 30, 1924 in Coxsackie, NY. "Arch" as he was known to family, worked much of his life as a printer for Williams Press and Hamilton Printing. He served his country in the Pacific and European Theatres aboard the U.S.S. Chicago and was honorably discharged from the Navy on January 25, 1946.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary Graver, and their loving daughters Mary Ann Mahoney and Kathleen Caulfield. He is also survived by his devoted son-in-law Michael Mahoney and 2 cherished granddaughters, Kara Mahoney of Latham and Jeanie Caulfield of Austin, Texas.
Fred came from a family of 11 and his two remaining siblings are Helen Shunk of Latham and Patty Carmody of Voorheesville. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Also acknowledged is Fred's friend of almost 70 years, Bernie Tholl of Loundonville.
Fred loved his family and home. He was an active gardener best known for growing giant tomatoes. He enjoyed singing in the St. Francis de Sales Church with his wife Mary. He knew how to fix anything which crossed his path and was not afraid to tackle various home renovation projects singlehandedly.
Fred relished Florida's wintertime sun and warmth and looked forward to his annual 1500 mile trek down south.
The family would like to express it's appreciation to the many people who performed acts of kindness (both big and small) for Fred during his last year of life.
There will be no calling hours, but all are welcome to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10:00 am at Christ Our Light Church, 1 Maria Drive, Loudonville. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Christ Our Light Church or a favorite charity.
