COLONIE – Frederick F. (Butch) Dott, 91, of Colonie, passed away on Saturday September 1, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He is affectionately remembered as Daddy Dott.
Fred was born July 18, 1921 in Albany and was the son of the late Fred and Matilda Dott. Fred was a graduate of Roessleville High School where he lettered in four varsity sports in both his junior and senior years. He enlisted in the US Navy on December 8, 1941 and proudly served aboard the USS Watts DD567. The ship survived a near miss by a kamikaze attack at the battle of Okinawa. After returning from the war, Fred survived a car accident in May of 1946. During his recovery, Fred met the love of his life, Ann Marie Smith and they were married in April 1948. He was a surveyor for NYS Office of General Services, retiring in 1987. Fred was an avid golfer and former member of Pinehaven Country Club, where he won the Father/Son Tournament twice with two of his sons.
Fred is the beloved husband of 64 years to Ann Marie Smith Dott. He is the devoted father of Linda Dott, John (Tracie) Dott, Donna (Den) Choiniere, Art Dott, Karen Dott (Michael McCall), Jim (Pattie) Dott, Bryan (Judy) Dott, Michele (John) Tremblay and Mary Lynn (Bill) Lasch. He is the brother of Joan Gregory and the late Pearl Veeder and John Dott. He is the father-in-law of the late John Miller. Fred is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 10:00 at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Drive Loudonville. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Saratoga National VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to USS Slater, PO Box 1926, Albany, NY 12201-1926 in memory of Frederick F. Dott.
