Frederick Herbst, Jr., 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 29, 2010. He was born in Albany to the late Fred and Mary Herbst. He proudly served for both the United States Marine Corps. and the United States Navy. While in the Navy, Fred served during the Korean War and was on the USS Valley Forge. He is an avid woodworker and had a love for football. He worked for the sheet metal workers union, local #83, until his retirement. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his wife Alice Cooper Herbst and his step brother, Louis Tonetti.
Fred is survived by his children; Frederick (Nancy) Herbst and Martin (Patricia) Herbst. He is the cherished grandfather of Daniel and Adrienne Herbst; he is the brother of, Betty Arcolano and step brother of Michael Tonetti, Ann Viglucci and Dorothy Meyer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday at 9 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schylerville.
