Colonie- Frederick M. George, Sr., 89, died on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at home surrounded by his family. Born in Watervliet he was the son of the late Matthew S. and Elizabeth George. Fred served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during WWII. After his return from the military, he went on to work for New York Telephone until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the New York Telephone Pioneers for many years. Fred had a great love for family. He enjoyed spending time with family and going to his grandchildren's sporting events. Fred is predeceased by b his beloved wife of 52 years Fredrecka George, his daughter Janice Rivers, and his brother Matthew F. George.
Fred is survived by his daughter Jeanne Lawlor and husband Patrick of Colonie, his son Frederick M. George, Jr. and wife Sheila of Albany, and his nine grandchildren; Patrick, Shannon, and Timothy Lawlor, Mark, Tom, and John Cerrone, and Harrison, Eric, and Frank Rivers. He is also survived by 4 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather on Monday at 4:30 PM at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM at Christ the King Church in Guilderland. Interment will be in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery, Glenmont.
