COLONIE - Frederick Unser, (Oct. 7, 1925), 87, entered into the eternal Garden of Paradise to be with our Lord, Jesus on May 30, 2013. A strong man of faith and leader in the prayer community, Fred served 50+ years at St. Clare's Church, Colonie. He truly enjoyed show tunes and delighted all through his gracefully choreographed dance. However, his greatest pleasure was working in his garden and creating lovely flower arrangements. Fred's artistic spirit was also displayed through his paintings.
Fred was a hard and dedicated worker commencing at 14 with the A&P Food Market in Albany; he retired at 79 from the 109th Airlift Group at Stratton Airbase, Scotia. A veteran, Fred served in the United States Army during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 59 years, Patricia Myers Unser; grandsons Ira Penk and Tom Unser; great-granddaughter Meadow Ray Penk; siblings Del, Bill, Charlie, Herm and Mary Wolbert.
He will be missed by his 5 children: Mark (Mary) Unser, Averill Park, Eric (Christine) Unser, Delanson, Veronica (Raymond) Penk, McAllen,TX, Tim (Bonnie) Unser, Ballston Spa, Patrick Unser, Hyannis, MA; and his sisters Margaret Seeberger and Grace Unser. Precious memories for Fred were those shared with his 10 remaining grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, who emulate his strength and heritage.
