COLONIE – Gabriel M. Mac, died at home on Friday, January 28, 2005 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Amsterdam, NY on October 14, 1918 and was the son of the late Paul and Anna Szczepanik Mac. Gabe served his country in both World War II and the Korean War in the 554th Army Ordinance Company and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He first retired from the Chas. Friehofer Baking Co. where he started his deliveries with a horse drawn wagon. He then worked as a welder/machinist at the Watervliet Arsenal from where he retired. Gabe was an active member of Our Lady of Mercy Church and a member of the Colonie Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed sports, especially bowling. He was an excellent mechanic who could fix almost anything. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Gabe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hermine Tracz Mac of Amsterdam. He is the father of Joyce Bellinger and her husband, Peter of Clifton Park, Arthur Mac of Brooklyn and his finacee', Gail Allen of Schenectady and Roger Mac of Crockett, CA. He is the grandfather of Matthew Bellinger and Traczie and Brienne Bellinger all of Clifton Park. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. Gabe was predeceased by his three sisters, two brothers, one nephew, one grandnephew and one grandniece.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Colonie. Calling hours will be Monday fro 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church, 26 Wilson Ave., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Gabriel M. Mac.
