Gary W. Drapala

SCHENECTADY – Gary W. Drapala, 68, passed away at home on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Dolores (Sojak) Drapala. Gary worked at Wolfert's Roost Country Club in Albany for many years before his retirement. Gary was a longtime member of the Schenectady APA Pool League for which he will always be remembered as a mentor for many of his friends.

He is the beloved husband of Lori (Doedema) Drapala and devoted father of Tiffani (Shawn) Schaffer, Trisha, Thomas and Travis Jansen and Ann Dean. Gary is the cherished grandfather of Lily Schaffer who was the "love of his life". He is the brother of Joel and Ronnie Drapala, both of Long Island, NY. Also surviving is his mother-in-law, Patricia Doedema, sisters and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gary was predeceased by his father-in-law, Ronald Doedema.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. At Gary's request, following the services, the celebration of his life will continue at Maloney's Pub on State Street in Schenectady. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12308 in memory of Gary W. Drapala.
