Albany- Gayle L. Cerwonka, 72, passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on October 31, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Louise and Peter Gerard, and was a lifelong resident of Albany.
She was a graduate of Guilderland Central High School and was a former parishioner of Christ The King Roman Catholic Church.
Gayle worked as a secretary for the New York State Department of Transportation and retired in 2003 following 40 years of service. She was a kind and generous woman, with a loving heart, contagious smile; and a passion and devotion to her family. She enjoyed annual family vacations, getting together with friends, and holidays celebrated with her entire family. Gayle loved all animals and never lived a day without having a pet or two, especially those who were in need of a good home.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her life partner, soulmate and beloved husband of 43 years, Dennis Cerwonka. Gayle is survived by her best friend and loving daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Cercone, and grandson Caden Cercone whom she loved "to the moon and back" and cherished beyond measure. She adored her family, and she will be deeply missed and forever loved by all whose lives she touched.
Special thanks to Gayle's physician Dr. Miguel Diaz and his staff for their outstanding care, and to the Community Hospice for providing compassionate care and support.
In keeping with Gayle's wishes, there will be no calling hours, and services will be private.
