COLONIE_Gene J. Mastro, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at The Capital Living and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born on September 15, 1920 to the late Nicola and Rose (Philips) Mastro.
Gene was a decorated war veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. He served his country during WWII, for which he received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air Medal. On November 3, 1946 he married Mary T. Tersigni. In 1955 Gene and Mary moved to Colonie where they raised their family. Gene was a kind and gentle man and devoted husband and father. Gene worked as a manager at Revere Lanes in Schenectady. He was an avid bowler up until the spring of 2015. For 45 years Gene ran the Youth Bowling Program at Revere Lanes and taught many children the game, many of whom became top bowlers in the Capital District. Gene also enjoyed gardening and sports.
Gene is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his children, Donna Moran and her husband Dick , Bob Mastro and his wife Anne; grandchildren, Rich Moran, Gina Moran and her wife Melissa Zambri, Nathan Mastro and his wife Nicole, Nicole Jacobson and her husband Michael; 7 great grandchildren, sister, Lillian Tersigni and brother, Alfred Mastro.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Arkley and Louis.
Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, September 28, 2015 at 5:00pm-7:00pm at New Comer Funeral Home, Colonie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at 11:00am at the Church of St. Clare, in Colonie. Entombment will take place immediately following mass at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
