ALBANY- Geneva Iona McKnight-Farmer, 83, fulfilled the course of her earthly life and assumed body and soul into heavenly glory surrounded by her loving family.
Geneva was born in Beards Forks, W. Va. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Charles and Virginia Elizabeth McKnight Sr. Geneva was a loving and devoted wife to Herman Rudolph Farmer for well over 4 decades. Geneva was a wonderful mother to six children, Ulysses Bruce, Sayonara, Veda, Princena, Tamiko, and Jamar.
Geneva's educational career was in Beards Forks, W. Va.
She was the first black woman to work in sales and on the floor at Flahs Dept. Store.
She also worked for the NYS Assembly as Sargent of Arms for over 30 years, where she retired due to her illness.
Geneva was a member of the Elks Royal Temple 148.
Geneva was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church until her illness prohibited her from attending.
Geneva loved her garden, and cooked what came out of it. She also loved to clean, shop, travel, and dine out. She loved the finer things, such as jewels and fine apparel.
Geneva was so proud of her family, immediate and extended. She always expressed encouragement and support.
She was such a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Geneva leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Herman Rudolph Farmer, daughters, Sayonara Taylor, Princena Floyd, Tamiko (Otis) Barrow, Jamar (Donald) Koonce, of Albany, NY., and Veda Mahadi, of Sarasota, FL., 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, Mary McKnight, of Los Angeles, CA., Luci McKnight, of Albany, NY, Regina Gilbert, of Fayetteville, NC, and Darlene McKnight, of Silver Springs, MD, and 3 Brothers, Robert, Lloyd and Dale McKnight of Beards Forks, W. Va.

Geneva was predeceased by her parents, Floyd Sr., and Virginia McKnight, her son, Ulysses Bruce McKnight, and four brothers, Floyd Jr., Patrick, Kenneth and Leonard McKnight
.
Geneva will also be remembered by a host of loving relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 441 Washington Ave, Albany, NY 12206, on Thursday(8/2/18), from 10am-12pm, with a service to immediately follow. Burial will be held at Graceland Cemetery, Albany, NY.
