COLONIE – Genevieve F. Valentine, 91, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born in Syracuse, she graduated from Transfiguration School and Eastwood High. She loved her job as a senior auditor at Syracuse City Hall for seventeen years prior to moving to Albany. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle expert, very creative, loved dancing, the Boston Red Sox, quilting, the Adirondacks and most of all, her family and friends. She was a longtime communicant of the Church of St. Clare.
Genevieve was predeceased by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Nicholas S. Valentine Jr., her parents, Alexander and Eleanor Tulowiecki and her siblings, Peter, Alexander, John, Stanley, Sophie and Anna. Survivors include her daughters, Linda L. (Louis C.) Vaccaro of Las Vegas, NV, Christine (Lawrence) Bourdillon of New Milford, CT and Robin Valentine of Springfield, MA; her beloved sister, Mary Popkaski and brother Edward Tulowiecki of Liverpool, NY; grandson Jim (Michele) Lasher of West End, NC and granddaughter Jennifer (Steven) Bower of Venice, FL. Also surviving are her great-grandchildren, Declan, Alexandra and Morgan as well as several nieces and nephews. Genevieve was also blessed with special love from Mary Lou, Frances, Victoria, Michelle, Terry and Justin and many honorary grandchildren. She was blessed in life with many international friends in her extended family and many Adirondack friends on Fourth Lake. Special thanks to Dr. Sharma and the earth angels; Diana, Sheila, Esther, Beth, Victoria, Mary, Catherine, Evelyn, Bill and the entire staff for genuine compassion and extraordinary care. Also to the emergency group at St. Peter's Hospital and the Colonie EMS Squad for all their expertise and care.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Clare in Colonie. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
