ALBANY - After a brief illness, Gennaro Gallo, 78, passed away on Wednesday at St. Peter's Hospice Inn surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cervinara (Avellino) Italy on August 2, 1932, he was the son of Antonio Gallo and Elvira Perone. He came to this country in 1970 and lived in Albany and Guilderland. He was a member of the Laborers Union 190 and was employed by several construction companies working on large construction projects including the D & H Building Reconstruction Project and the Empire State Plaza. He also worked at Albany Medical Center in numerous departments. After retirement, he and his wife spent winters in Pompano Beach, Florida.
He leaves behind his wife, Maria Carmine (Girardi), four children, Elvira (Ken) Panthen, Albany, Antonio (Caterina) Gallo, Lenox MA, Frances Gallo, Guilderland, and Frank (MaryJane) Gallo, Slingerlands; a special son, John Lutz; his brothers and sisters, Madeline Bizzaro, Albany, Francesca (Luigi) Clemente, Josephine (Joseph) Cioffi, Michele (Carmela) Gallo, Elvira (Pasquale) Ferraro, Alfonso (Veneranda) Gallo and Maria (Angelo) Di Natale all from the Syracuse area; his grandchildren, Tania Panthen, Sabrina (Tomas) Poventud, Gennaro and Maria Gallo, Tina Tartaglia, MaryFrances, Anthony and Michael Gallo, and his great grand daughter, Isabella Poventud. He was predeceased by his siblings, Francesco, Anna and John Gallo.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 8:00 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie then to Blessed Sacrament Church at 9:00 where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd. Loudonville, NY 12211 or the American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Gennaro Gallo.
