George H. Castle

George H. Castle III passed away peacefully at his home the morning of September 17, 2020. He was born in Schenectady, NY on May 28, 1942 to the late George and Myrtle Castle.

He moved to White Plains, NY in 1949. George went to Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, NY. He finished his undergraduate studies in 1964 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant Signal Corps in the U.S. Army serving at Erie Army Depot Port Clinton, Ohio right after graduation.

George married Sharon Carolyn Kuether on May 16 1967 and together they raised two children. His next job was with United Airlines in Detroit, Michigan in their management training program.

While in Michigan, George was called up from the reserves by President Nixon and given orders for Vietnam War preparation. He served as Company Commander of the 146th MaintenanceCompany, the 647th Maintenance Co. and the 238th Maintenance Co. supporting the 1st and 2nd Armored Divisions of Fort Hood, Texas prior to deployment to the war in 1969 where he was stationed in the Mekong Delta with the MACU Command.

George worked as an Allstate Insurance agent for 27 years in Schenectady. He and Shari enjoyed many trips together over these years with family and friends. He retired at the age of 55 and cherished his time with his grandchildren and enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was always eager to tackle a new project. Most of all, he greatly appreciated the valuable time he was able to share with his family and friends during his years.

He leaves behind his wife Sharon, their two children John (Maura) Castle and Tanya (Andrew) Cowder, and five grandchildren Emily, Sarah, Jack, Noah, & Andrew Tae and sister, Nadine Mandigo.

George was a true friend with a kind, gentle spirit. He will be remembered for his love, his smile, and his strong faith in God.

Calling hours will be held Monday, September 21 from 10:30am -12pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals 343 New Karner Road Colonie 12205.

Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW or Faith United Methodist Church 811 N. Brandywine Avenue Schenectady, NY.

Social distance practices will be in effect and masks are required in the building.
