ALBANY – George Chrysogelos, 86, passed away suddenly on Monday, September 17, 2012. He was born and raised in Albany, and attended Albany city schools. George was a signalman in the U.S. Navy aboard an attack cargo ship during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He first worked as a longshoreman at the Port of Albany and then went to work for T.J. Bell and the U.S. Postal Service from where he retired after thirty-one years of service. George was member of the Albany Wigwams since 1949. He was an avid bowler for many years at Delanes and enjoyed gardening, visiting casinos and buffets and taking care of his cats.
George was the beloved husband of the late Ruth D. Chrysogelos. He is the devoted father of Georgene Chrysogelos of Albany, Kim (Dave) Lundy of Colorado, Keith Chrysogelos of Colonie, Lynn Chrysogelos of Albany and Dedra (Mike) Kessler of Berne. He is the loving brother of Mary (Steve) Markopoulos, Angelo (Pat) Chrysogelos, Anthony (Mary Ann) Chrysogelos and the late John and Peter Chrysogelos. George is the cherished grandfather of Sean, Joseph, Brittany, Katie, Ryan, Thea and Keith. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will precede the service from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204 in memory of George Chrysogelos.
