HOHENSTEIN – George D. Hohenstein, 67, of Hampton Manor in Rensselaer, passed away on Monday April 16, 2012 at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany after a long illness.
He was born in Troy and was the son of the late Stephen Hohenstein and Marion McClary (Crogan). He was a lifelong resident of Rensselaer County. George served in the US Navy from 1962 through 1966 on the Aircraft Carrier USS Ranger (CVA-61) and saw action in the Viet Nam War supporting air assaults on North Viet Nam. He was later employed by W&LE Gurley, the F&M Schaefer Brewing Company, Condiesel Mobil Equipment and the last twenty years at Freihofer's Bakery. George loved fast cars and spent his retirement years customizing his cars for local auto shows.
He is survived by his son Holden of Edgewater, FL and his brothers Stephen of Deland FL and Guy of Rexford, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday morning at 9:00 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1260 Pleasant Street, Schenectady. Calling hours will be
