Guilderland- George J. Ezekiel, 82, left the earthly world to join his heavenly Father on June 14, 2024. George was born on June 5, 1942 in Thanjavur, India to the late Job and Mary Ezekiel.
George worked as an A-Grade Special Electrical Locomotive Driver for 29 years with the Indian Railways. The highlight of his career was when he received multiple accolades for his success and heroism when he successfully navigated his train across a severely flooded bridge, which saved hundreds of lives on November 12, 1985. After retiring from the Railways, he and his wife, Olive, made the decision to migrate to the United States to provide a better life for their children and they arrived in America on September 22, 1992. George jumped right into the work force as a dishwasher at a diner for a short period of time. He then transitioned to working at a nursing home where he worked as a laundry aide for nearly a year. He eventually found his niche when he began working at St. Peter’s hospital, in Albany, NY for the next 21 years. He worked in many departments, including patient transportation, medical records, and the imaging center.
George was a diligent worker and was dedicated to all his jobs; however, his greatest accomplishments were his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his beloved family; sharing family stories, telling jokes, and learning about the endless activities his grandchildren were involved with.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He is survived by Olive, his wife of 49 years, his two sons Robert (Melinda Mantello) and Joshua (Amy), and his four grandchildren Donata, Nicholas, Logan, and Caleb, all from Albany, NY. He is also survived by his three sisters Flora Malcolm of Chicago, IL, Charolette Vaseekaran and Suganthi Subramaniam both from India, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.
He was predeceased by his three brothers Earnest Devasahayam of Johnston, RI, John Ezekiel and Lionel Rajasekaran both from India.
On behalf of George, his family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to all the staff at Shaker Place Rehab & Nursing Center, the Dialysis Clinic Inc., and the Albany Medical Center Hospital for their impeccable care of George in his final years.
