George Francis Lillquist

August 5, 1925 — January 21, 2014

George Francis Lillquist, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 in Austin, Texas in the presence of his daughter, Dolly. Born in West Haven, Connecticut to Priscilla and Arthur Lillquist, he lived most of his life in N.J. and N.Y.

George grew up in West Haven, Conn., graduating from West Haven HS, attending Yale on a scholarship: leaving to serve in the Army Air Corps. He earned a B.S. Degree from Fordham University and an M.B.A. from Seton Hall University. He had a distinguished career in the plastics and specialty chemical industries, employed at Agrico, Koppers, Airco, Rexall, Allied Chemical and Skeist Laboratories. He excelled as a chemist and later as a Senior Marketing Analyst. He explored Northern Canada prospecting for minerals. He registered patents with complex technical papers. He revered Thomas Alva Edison and loved Jonathan Winters! He taught catechism at church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed and loved all the best bakeries in the Northeast! George was known for his devotion to family, sense of humor, fierce intelligence, picky food palette, rugged individualism, intense work ethic and strong will. He also devoured books and Smithsonian magazine, etc, studying history, cooking breakfast feasts, traveling and conversing with friends and family. His appetite for learning never diminished, his love of learning was amazing!

George was very proud of his two daughters, Dolly, and husband David Bookter of Austin, Texas and Patricia Lillquist, M. D. of Swansboro, N.C. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Pvt. Amanda Lillquist, U.S. Army (stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas) and brother, Richard Lillquist of Reston, Va., and cousin Tom Brennan of West Haven, along w/their families. Edward Bear and Teddy ("Wiggles") of Austin, along with Buddy of Swansboro, were much loved, surviving canine family members.

George was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Dolores, his parents, and his older brother, Arthur.

A funeral mass will be held at noon Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Austin, Texas.

A Memorial Mass in memory of George and Dolores will be held 10 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2014 at The Infant of Prague Chapel at the Teresian House in Albany, NY.

Many additional masses across the country will be said in his honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests prayers and masses in memory of George, or contributions to any animal rescue group.

George moved in w/Pat's family in Albany after Dolores died. Later, he moved w/her to North Carolina. Pat had given over 30 years of devotion to Mom and Dad. George visited, then moved to Austin in 2010. It was Dolly's turn to return the love, but the window was fleeting… Dolly was his caretaker for 3 precious years. They were painful, intense and rewarding years… Many thanks to the staff of West Oaks, who provided loving care to George in his last months. His last days were in a loving environment surrounded by family.
