Albany – George R. Hinckley Jr., 94, passed into eternal rest on November 28, 2016. George was a resident of the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center during the last 16 months of life, where his loving sons and daughters visited with him.
George was born on June 14, 1922 and was one of three children born to the late George and Rabie Hinckley. He served in the United States Army from December 1942 until February 1946, and the Army National Guard from 1948 to 1966, retiring as a Captain. A graduate of Albany High School, George received acclaim for his exploits on the baseball field, and often regaled his children and grandchildren with stories of playing against major league stars when stationed across the country during World War II.
George was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Mary Ellen Hinckley. He is survived by his four loving children, Sandra Meisner, Judith Lennon, George (Susan) Hinckley III, and Robert (Kathleen) Hinckley, nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law Edward Meisner and granddaughter, Tina Marie Webster.
During his business career, George was General Manager of Tri-City Mailing Service in Albany. George loved boating, golf, the New York Yankees and New York Giants, and, most of all, his family. He spent many years caring for his wife as she suffered the debilitating effects of Alzheimer's disease. He never complained and was always there for her.
George's family would like to thank the staffs at the Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Community Hospice for the compassionate care they provided their father during the last months of his life.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
