ALBANY – George "Barry" J. Baranski, Sr., 87, of Albany passed away on Monday January 2, 2012 at the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
He was born in Albany and was the son of the late Jozef and Janina Baranski. Barry was a 1942 graduate of Albany High School and served in the US Army during WWII. He was employed with Postman with the US Postal Service for many years. He was a member of the Joseph Zaloga American Legion Post and a Life member of the Polish American Citizens Club. Barry was a bartender at the Polish Club for many years and served as a Club Trustee. He enjoyed shooting craps at Atlantic City and Turning Stone.
He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley O' Connell Baranski. Barry is the father of George J. (Angela) Baranski Jr., Joseph D. Baranski both of Albany and Mary Beth (Larry) Schwartz of Merrimack, NH. He is the brother of the late Viola McCurdy, Matthew Baranski, Estelle Allegretti and Stanley Baranski. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at All Saints Catholic Church (former St. Margaret Mary) where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Thursday morning from 7:30 to 8:30 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie. Interment will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Rd., Loudonville, NY 12211 in memory of George J. Baranski Sr.
