Powers, Sr., George J.
Troy – George J. Powers, Sr., 86, peacefully entered into internal life on Thursday, October 28, 2010.
George was born in Albany, one of nine children, to Louis and Mary (Simmons) Powers and was a lifelong area resident. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps during WW II in the Pacific Theatre and received multiple medals as well as the Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. George enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing and his dogs and cats, but above all he was a dedicated family man. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, grandfather and will be truly missed. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years Muriel A. (Miller) Powers one year ago.
George is survived by his loving children: George (Darlene) Powers, Jr., David Powers, Charles (Sharon) Powers, Janice (Jerry) Whitney and Daniel Powers, grandchildren: Mickey, Shelby, Jason, George III, Christopher and Nicholas and great-granddaughter Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.
