George T. Jenkins

George Thomas Jenkins was born in Woodbury, NJ on August 15, 1922 to the late Mr. and Mrs. James and Mary Jenkins. He met in married his sweetheart, Mercedes Day, in 1947. On Saturday, January 21, 2023 George departed this life peaceful in his sleep at Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

George was a veteran of the United States Navy. At the age of 21 he entered the US Navy where he served his country honorably. His rank was Seaman 2nd Class and He was stationed in Newark, NJ, Wilmington, VA, San Francisco, CA and Brooklyn, NY.

He received an honorable discharge and three medals:
The Victory Medal,
American Theatre Medal, and
The Asiatic Pacific Medal 1Star

While in the Navy he completed a two-year vocational training course in Machine Shop & Automotive repairs.

George loved watching baseball on TV, his favorite team was the New York Mets.

He leaves to cherish his memories 6 children: Mercy Jenkins of Schenectady, NY, Joseph Jenkins and Melinda Dixon of Greenville, NC, Carol Scott, Frankie Jenkins and Stella Jenkins of Schenectady, NY. He also leaves to cherish his memories 8 grandchildren: Lawrence Jenkins of Somerset, NJ, Maurice Jones of Orlando, FL, Lydia Tanksley of Baltimore, MD, Nicole Reynolds and Anthony Reynolds of Philadelphia, PA , Ilyas Scott of Bronx, NY, Wajeedah Scott of Schenectady, NY, and Ibrahim Jenkins of Albany, NY. He also leaves to cherish his memories numerous great-grandchildren.

He will truly be missed by those that truly loved him.
