George C. Kopsaftis, 91, husband of Beverly A. Kopsaftis of Poestenkill, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2021 at the Albany Veterans Hospital.
Born November 19,1929 in Albany, New York, he was the son of the late Peter Kopsaftis and Helen Hofstetter. He was also the step-son of the late William Koloukis and Al Brideau.
Mr. Kopsaftis served in the United States Navy as a ships cook in WWII and the Korean War. Throughout his life, he was the owner of multiple restaurants including The Victory Restaurant, George's Rendezvous, Andy's Drive In, The Mall Restaurant, Vic's Place, and Christo's. He was also a partner in The Mezzanine Cafe at the New York State Museum and worked at Glen Sanders Mansion. In his spare time he loved to shoot pool, play cards and read and watch western stories.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Beverly Kopsaftis, sons, William and his wife Gail of Tigard, Oregon and Peter and his wife Eileen of Pittstown, New York and his daughters, Dawn of Poestenkill, New York and Elena and her husband Darren of West Sand Lake, New York; 11 grandchildren, Kristin of Beaverton, Oregon, Aletia and Sarah of Mesa, Arizona, Robert and Rebekah of Pittstown, New York, Christopher of Poestenkill, New York, and Brandon, Brianna, Darren, Nikolas, and Mikayla of West Sand Lake. He is also survived by his niece, Tammy and her daughter Katherine, his nephew Eugene and many other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Amelia and 2 grandchildren, William and Stephen.
A military service will be celebrated grave side on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 11am at the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schulyerville. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to: the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
