COLONIE – George N. Ferris, 87, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland.
George was born on August 12, 1925 in Albany and was the son of the late Newton B. and Alice (Hutton) Ferris. George was a graduate of Milne High School and joined the US Navy and spent two years and seven months on active duty and earned the rank of Lieutenant and retired after 20 years of combined active and inactive duty. George received his Master's in Business Administration from Syracuse University and went to work for his father at John Ferris, Jr. Incorporated, a business established by his grandfather in 1833 on 400 Broadway in Albany. After working for his father, George worked for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles until he retired 30 years later.
In September of 1951, George married Betty Standley and had two sons, William and Richard. Richard passed away in 2001. George and Betty have three grandchildren, Lucien Bourgault and Richard and Meredith Ferris. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Sharon.
George and Betty loved to travel and have been to many places including, Hawaii, England and Scotland, but their favorite place is Maine. George was involved with the Boys Scouts for about 20 years.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. A calling hour will precede the service from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.
