George Joseph Powers, Jr., 74, of Ballston Lake, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
He was born on August 2, 1949, to the late George and Muriel Powers in Troy, NY.
George was a dedicated employee for the Dept. of Corrections where he worked for many years as a Corrections Officer then Firearms Instructor before retiring in May of 1999. He was a U.S. Marine who proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. George was an avid hunter and wildlife enthusiast. He enjoyed painting and spending time on the lake, boating with friends and family. He was an excellent bowler, achieving the coveted perfect 300 game.
George is survived by his loving wife of ten years, Kelly Powers; his three children, George (Rebecca) Powers, III, Christopher (Alexis) Powers, and Nicholas (Autumn) Powers; his three stepchildren, LaFon (Michele) Sutton, Bruce (Jeanna) Hathaway, and Brianna Hathaway; beautiful grandchildren, Vivienne and Harrison Powers, Cameron and Isabella Powers, Olivia Powers, Xavion and JaeLon Sutton, Blake, Carter, and Mya Hathaway; his siblings, David (Mary Ann) Powers, Janice (Jerry) Whitney, Daniel Powers, Lori Miller, and Daniel (Sandi) Miller, and his beloved fur companion, Ruby. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents, George and Muriel Powers; he was predeceased by his brother, Charles (Chuck) Powers, and nephew, Jason Powers.
George's family would also like to sincerely thank very dear family friends Jeanette Kavanaugh and Darlene Krug, as well as give a special thanks to Pastor, Dan Tabolt, Brenda Petty, Ed and Sharon Wilkins, Abundant Life Fellowship, Roswell Park Cancer Center at Ellis Hospital, and Saratoga County Hospice for the wonderful care and support given during this difficult time.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29th from 4pm-6pm, with a service to begin at 6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie, New York.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
