George R. Thompson, Jr. 77, entered eternal rest on March 21, 2014 at Albany Memorial Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on January 20, 1937 in Albany, to the late George R. Thompson and Mildred Thompson.
George proudly served with the United States Navy during the Korean War.
He was a part of the family business, the original owners of Thompson's Garage of Albany, prior to his employment of more than 32 years with the Federal Government, GSA Fleet Management.
He was a former member of the Eagles of Cohoes. He was a member of the American Legion Zaloga Post, former member of the Madison Ave. Baptist Church and a active member of the Community Reformed Church of Colonie.
George was an avid hunter, fisherman and loved reading and camping. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents George was predeceased by his son, Frederick C. Thompson and his brothers Donald "Duck" and Robert Thompson.
George is survived by his loving wife of over 47 years, Katherine Thompson, he is the beloved father of George R. (Brenda) Thompson III of Duluth, GA, Walter L. Thompson of Atlanta, GA, Faith M. (Nicholas) Clark of Nassau, NY and Thomas F. (Rayanne) Thompson of Colonie. He is the adored "Poppy" of George R. (Jenny) Thompson IV of Charlotte, NC, Joshua Thompson of Denver, Co., Steven Clark, Gina Clark, Nicholas Clark of Nassau ,NY and Richard Thompson of Colonie. He is the cherished great grandfather of Nathan and Nora Thompson of Charlotte, NC. He is the brother of June Maniscalco, Annette Foley and Dona Gross. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 10:00 am at the Community Reformed Church of Colonie,701 Sand Creek Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm, at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie, New York.
Interment will follow the service in Memory Gardens, Colonie.
