COLONIE-George R. Wood has taken up permanent residence at Tioga Cemetery in Owego, NY.
He is survived by his girlfriend and long term companion, Mary Shattuck, as well as the mother of his children, Marilyn Wood, a son, Garry Wood, a graduate of SUNY Albany, a daughter, Sandra Costanzo, a graduate of Siena College, a granddaughter Chelsea Costanzo, a graduate of Roger Williams University, a grandson, Jason Costanzo, a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and Syracuse University College of Law.
George is predeceased by his siblings Robert, Donald, Jack, Glenn, June, and Gerard.
George was a graduate of Owego Free Academy. He enlisted in the Air Force as a radio and teletype operator, was honorably discharged after four years as a staff sergeant. He later became a linotype operator for Vail-Ballou Press in Binghamton. After 9 years they had a strike and George found employment in Albany, NY. As a journeyman printer, he worked for Clarity Publishers and Times Union of Albany. George changed careers, and joined the New York State Court of Claims, retiring after 15 years of service.
George was a member of the Sporting Trap Shooting Club, of Voorheesville, NY, charter member of the Guilderland Elks 2480, and a mason with his father and 4 brothers at Friendship Lodge 153 in Owego, NY.
