George J. Schryver, 94, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2017.
George was born in Olean, NY and was the son of the late George P. and Mary Schryver.
He graduated from Olean High School in 1939.
He proudly served in the United States Coast Guard as an Electrician's Mate (TEL) from 1942 thru 1945.
His wife of 67 years, Lorraine predeceased him in May of 2011.
George started working for the New York Telephone Co. in March of 1941 at Arcade, NY. He worked in Olean, Gowanda and Lockport, NY before being transferred to Albany as a Staff Engineer in 1955. He subsequently was promoted to Supervising Engineer until his retirement in 1983, after 42 years of service.
He worked on the 1980 Olympics at Lake Placid providing World Wide TV facilities. He was a life member of the TELECOM Pioneers and Chapter 40 of the National Watch and Clock Collectors Association.
He enjoyed woodworking, model ship building and clock repair.
George was a communicant of Christ The King Church in Westmere.
George is survived by his son, G. Daniel (Catherine) Schryver, his grandson, James G. (Mette) Schryver; his granddaughter, Ann Marie (Josh) Streufert. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Isaiah and Eliana; his brother William (Shirley) and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Funerals & Cremations, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY on Friday February 24, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday February 25, 2017 at 10:00 am at Christ The King Church. Interment will follow the Mass at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery. The parish family of Christ the King will gather on Friday at 4:30 pm at the funeral home for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome.
