George Anthony Thomas

Naples, Florida- George A. Thomas, 66, passed away peacefully on February 18th 2017 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. He was born on January 10, 1951 in Albany, New York and was the son of the late George E. Thomas and Mary (Promiscuo) Thomas. He was the beloved husband of Kimberly Thomas.
George was Vice President of Weather Guard Roofing in Colonie, New York where he was an integral part of building it into one of the nation's largest roofing companies. He was one of the industry's top authorities of Architectural Sheetmetal roofing. George was a major advocate for the employees of his company pushing for many of their benefits, including paid health coverage for families, higher wages, paid holidays and paid vacations that were not industry standards at that time.
Over the years, George thoroughly enjoyed hunting, freshwater fishing at his Camp on Lake Pleasant, Ocean fishing in Naples and icefishing with friends. He loved spending Summers with his Camp family at Nacodi, boating and watching his son Aaron play baseball.
George had a big heart and was always willing to help others. While at Weather Guard Roofing in NY he delivered truckloads of turkeys at Thanksgiving to those in need. He organized annual roof raisings and assisted in yearly Telethons all benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. His volunteering continued when he moved to Naples, FL. George was compassionate in his volunteer work for St. Vincent DePaul's Meal on Wheels and Collier Harvest's food distribution, especially to Guadalupe.
In addition to his wife Kimberly, George is survived by his two sons: George E. Thomas of Rotterdam, New York and Aaron G. Thomas of Naples, FL.; his siblings Diana (Sebastian) D'anna of Naples, Fl., Christine (Ralph) Hunter of Colonie, NY, Mary (Mike) Creamer of Guilderland, Christopher (Mary) Thomas of Guilderland Center, NY and Jeffrey (Debra) Thomas of Knox, NY and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and in-laws (Helm Family)
His family would like to thank Avow Hospice clinical staff for their compassionate care during his time of need.
Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Albany, NY 12203. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am at the church. Entombment will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
