George Thomas Freeman, Jr.

October 5, 1932 — July 16, 2016

George Thomas Freeman, Jr, "Pops", 83, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2016 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Troy, NY, on October 5, 1932 and was the son of the late George Thomas Sr and Mary Leach Freeman of County Roscommon, Ireland. He is predeceased by his half brother Jack (Mildred) Freeman and grandson Gage Freeman.

Pops was a 1947 Troy High graduate. He was a Sergeant in the Army. During his service he earned several medals and commendations. Before and after his service he worked as a tool and die maker at Behr Manning/Norton Company for 37 years until his retirement in 1986.

Pops was a die-hard Giants and Yankees fan. He enjoyed playing golf and was most proud of his 3 holes-in-one. He also enjoyed bowling, playing darts, traveling, singing, dancing, and making others smile. Pops especially liked the music of Burl Ives, Eddy Arnold, and Johnny Cash. He was often found singing his favorite song "It's Such a Pretty World Today." Above all else, Pops loved spending time with his family. He was a great father and his sense of humor was priceless. He had a kind soul and will be greatly missed by all.

Pops is survived by his 6 children: Mary Anne (Mark) Giaconia; George Thomas (Catherine) Freeman III, Esq; Geoffrey Thomas Freeman; Brenda Lee Bergerson; Gary Thomas (Marie) Freeman; Lynn Ann Freeman.Pops is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Pops cherished his two favorite caregivers: his daughter Mary Anne Giaconia and granddaughter Tanya LaVallee.

The family wishes to thank Pops' "other family"- the staff at the Eddy Village Green Building 8. We will be forever grateful for the loving care and compassion given by all.
