George P. Tusang Jr.
George P. Tusang, Jr., 87, died at home on June 21, 2012. He was born on May 22nd 1925 in Syracuse, NY to George P. Tusang, Sr. and Madeline R. (Green) Tusang. He graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady and as part of the greatest generation he entered military service during World War II. He was a decorated disabled veteran serving with the Army Air Corps in the China- Burma – India theatre of operations. His military service was as a flight engineer on a C-47 transport flying missions that included air drops to resupply enemy engaged troops. Following his service he spent nearly two years recuperating from illness and during this time met the love of his life, Charlotte Brewer. George worked for Tusang - Barhydt Electrical in Albany and upon retiring started a second career with the US Postal Service. Upon his second retirement he travelled, spent time loving his wife and family and encouraging and enjoying the company of those around him.
George was predeceased by Charlotte, his wife of 62 years and his sisters Yvonne and Ruth. He is survived by his beloved sisters Delores Metchick and Diane Diana, his children Linda Sobieski, Carol (Allan) Swartz, George P.(Sherri) Tusang, III, William (Dina) Tusang and Lisa (Mark) Harbison and his grandchildren Elizabeth (Thomas) Borkowski, Christina and Craig Swartz, Derrick and Brittany Tusang, Alyssa and Joshua Tusang and Rachel and Sarah Harbison and great-grandchild Madelyn Borkowski.
The family would like to thank all of the loving caregivers, the Schenectady Hospice, Visiting Nurses and the Veterans' Administration home based care that loved him and treated him as one of their own. Words cannot express our gratitude but Dad's smile certainly did. A service celebrating his life will be held at St. Gabriel's Church in Rotterdam on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 10 AM. Following the church celebration an Interment service with military honors will be held at 1:30 PM at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Lt. Vibert O. Fryer Chapter 88, Rotterdam Senior Center, 2639 Hamburg St. Schenectady, NY 12303 in memory of George.
