Pastor George D. Vitetta, 65, of Schenectady, passed away suddenly on July 22, 2022. He was born in Albany on October 8, 1956 to George and Shirley (Hayes) Vitetta.
George began his career as a plane mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. He went on to become a weapons designer for the U.S. Army. After retirement he became an ordained pastor and established the Remnant Church of Christ Jesus. Interests included music, carpentry, gardening and computers. He used his many talents to help his family and friends. Nothing made him happier than leading others to Christ.
He was predeceased by his father, George Vitetta Sr.George is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Chaput Vitetta; sister, Darlene Vitetta (Marc) Stever; daughter, Corby Vitetta (Jeff) Lentz; son Gabriel Vitetta; son, Andrew (Whitney) Oak; and 5 beloved grandchildren: Cheyenne, Jackson, Lucas, Gio, and Ella.
George lived his life putting others before himself. His life ended the same way he lived-giving his life to save the lives of his wife and 2 grandchildren caught in an unexpected riptide.
Visitation will be held on Sunday July 31st from 2-5pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Rd, Colonie. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10am at the funeral home. Interment to follow in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville.
