ALBANY – George W. Bruda, 88, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Newark, NJ and was a long time resident of Albany. George was a graduate of Phillip Schuyler High School and Siena College class of 1950. He was a point guard on the Siena men's basketball team and was later inducted into their Hall of Fame.
After graduating from high school, George served his country in the U.S. Navy as a gunner's mate during World War II. He was employed for 38 years at Banker's Trust and First American Bank, retiring in 1989. George was an avid handball and racquetball player at the Albany YMCA and Court Club for many years. He was also a life member of the Knights of Columbus, enjoyed golfing, holiday get-togethers, Siena alumni events and his annual family vacations to Myrtle Beach. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend and Siena basketball fan.
George is the beloved husband of 61 years to Mary M. Bruda. He is the devoted father of Nancy (Robert) Mead, Mary Ann (Thomas) Shoudy and Robert Bruda. He is the cherished grandfather of Robert (Renae) Mead, David (Erin) Shoudy and Matthew Shoudy. He is the loving great-grandfather of Lorryn Mead. George was blessed to have many close friends, including his teammates and the Siena community. George will be remembered for his many acts of kindness, his unselfish concern for others and his sense of humor. He was always more concerned about the needs and well-being of others, especially his family and not himself. George will be truly missed.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.) then to The Parish of Mater Christi, Albany at 9:30 a.m. where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands. Bruda.
