LATHAM – Georgia Campas Iatrides, 89, of Latham, died at home on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 after a long illness. Born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 6, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Demetrios Karkambasis (James Campas) and Maria Komninou. She grew up in Norfolk, Virginia and Xerokambi, Laconia, Greece. Georgia was predeceased by her husband, Constantine Iatrides and her four siblings; Anna Regas, William, Nick and Arthur Campas. Georgia was a member of St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church in Troy and a member of the St. Barbara's Ladies Philoptochos Society. She worked for many years as a waitress at Hoff's Diner, the Hendrick Hudson Hotel, King's Inn and Andrew's Restaurant. In her later years she was a cafeteria worker and baker for the Shaker Junior High School in Latham. In her spare time she loved to crochet and knit, making numerous afghans for relatives and friends; she also donated over 100 hand- knit sweaters for children as part of Guideposts Magazine's "Knit for Kids" Program, handmade sweaters from the heart for needy children worldwide.

Affectionately known as Yiayia by friends, she is survived by her children, Maria Ginter, Diane George and Phyllis Stark, all of Latham; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jessica) Ginter, Jonathan (Susan) Ginter, Hillary George and Giorgia Stark; great-grandchildren Danielle, Alexandra and Isaac Ginter. Mrs. Iatrides also leaves behind many friends and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving and compassionate care received from the staff of Community Hospice of Albany County and her doctor, Dr. Ara Kayayan. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at 10:00 am at St. Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River Street, Troy, NY 12180. A calling hour will precede the service from 9:00 to 10:00 am at the church. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens in Colonie. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send a contribution in her memory to St Basil Greek Orthodox Church, 909 River Street, Troy, NY 12180 or to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Road, Albany, NY 12205.
