Georgianna Caroline (Lambert) Sweeney, 91, died Thursday October 30, 2008 at the Eddy-Ford Nursing Home in Cohoes, New York after a long illness. Though Jetta lived nearly all of her life in New Hampshire, she moved to Schenectady in 2005 to be near her daughter, Patricia Marie (Sweeney) Owen.
Jetta was born November 19, 1916 in Haverhill, MA to Charles and Annie (Morel) Lambert. On June 20, 1937 she married Matthew Daniel Sweeney of Haverhill, MA at St. James Roman Catholic Church. Jetta and Matt lived most of their adult lives in the Seacoast area of New Hampshire. They owned and operated Kenmore Restaurant in Hampton Beach, NH, Russell's Inn in North Conway, NH and Rye Harbor Restaurant / Lobster Pound and Motel in Rye, NH. They wintered in Florida.
She is survived by her daughter Pat Owen of Schenectady, her sister Annie (Lambert) Honor of Haverhill, MA, four grandchildren; Kimberly Owen Bayoumi of Ridgewood, NJ, Ann Marie (Sweeney) Roman of Raymond, NH, Michelle (Sweeney) Eaton of Seabrook, NH and Matthew Daniel Sweeney, III of Manchester, NH and seven great-grandchildren. Jetta was predeceased by Matt, her husband of 64 ½ years, her son Matthew D. Sweeney, Jr., her brother Delphus Lambert and her sister Adeline (Lambert) Sarazzan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00am Thursday at St. Madeline Sophie Church in Schenectady, NY. Memorial services in NH will be scheduled for a later date.
