Gerald Edward Campbell Sr. entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Saturday, September 19, 2020.
A native of Albany, NY, Gerald was the youngest son of the late Willie Mae and William Campbell. He was educated in Albany City Schools where he not only gained academic knowledge, but cultivated many skills such as auto mechanics, arts/photography and one skill we all appreciate very much, culinary arts (BAKING).
Gerald enlisted in the Army after high school, serving his country for six years. His military career enabled him to not only travel the country, but also to different parts of the world, to countries like Greece and Germany. During this time he made many friends and met the woman who became his wife, Patrina. They had four children Gerald Jr., Crystal, Laquisha (Charles Johnson; son-in-law) and Marquis. Gerald happily watched his children grow into adulthood eventually having children of their own. Becoming a grandfather was one of the greatest joys in his life.
Gerald worked for the City of Albany's code enforcement for years. A job that allowed him to help people ensuring that residents were safe and protected. During his free time, he loved to play basketball, bake and spending quality time with his family. He most recently played for the Capital District YMCA adult basketball league. He was a jack of all trades, fixing pretty much anything with his trusted tools.
Gerald is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, Nehemiah Johnson, Hannah Johnson, Nasir Campbell and Azariah Johnson. He also leaves behind his sisters and a host of adored nieces and nephews, cousins and childhood friends to treasure his memory. Gerald is predeceased by his cherished mother and father Willie Mae and William Campbell, William (Junior) Campbell, Nathaniel McLean, Betty Campbell, Jamel Marquis Tarver, Nathan J Croley.
