Gerald H. Wohlferd

Colonie- Gerald H. Wohlferd, 85, died on Thursday, August 3, 2006. Born in Grand Rapids, MI he was the son of the late Pearl and Herman Wohlferd. He is predeceased by a brother Charles B. Wohlferd. Gerald's primary profession was education, having been a teacher and for 23 years until his retirement being employed by the NYS Education Department. His hobbies include vocal and instrumental music, hunting, fishing, dancing and bowling. Gerald was a member of the Colonie Elks and a lifelong Shriner.
After returning from duty in the U.S. Army serving in the European Theater during WWII Gerald married his college sweetheart Etta M. Gilbert. He was the proud father of four children; Sandra M. (Mrs. Richard Dietz), Beth J. (Mrs. Darrell La Schomb), James R. Wohlferd and Janet L. (Mrs. Matthew Durland), 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday at 2PM at Pine Grove Methodist Church, 1580 Central Avenue, Colonie. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew Street, Springfield , MA 01104-2396 or to the Pine Grove Methodist Church Building Fund, 1580 Central Ave., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Gerald H.
