Gerald Knapp

ALBANY-Gerald "Chickie" R. Knapp, 77 passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Albany, NY the son of the late Edward and Helen (Harris) Knapp. Chickie was a veteran having served in the US Navy. Chickie was a well-liked and respected member of the Albany Police Department for 33 years. Chickie's word was his bond. A fellow you could count on in good times and bad. Chickie was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. If it swam, flew, or walked it was in Chickie's freezer. He especially cherished time spent in the mountains and on the lakes with his father, brother, nephews and close friends. He was a long standing fan of the Mets and the Giants.
Chickie is survived by his soul mate and beloved wife of 55 years Ruth (Rossi) Knapp and by his loving daughter Geraldine Hormovitis (John). He is also survived by his siblings Edward Knapp (Janet), Sue Hitchcock of Hastings, NY, Janet Dunn (John), Donna Terry and Katie Harris (Whitey), many nieces and nephews and friends. Chickie was the godfather of Brian Dunn.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd. Colonie.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Friday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of Chickie.
