Albany – Gerald "Jerry" Lather, 75, passed away Monday, July 19, 2010 at Albany Memorial Hospital.
Jerry was born in Albany, a son of the late Mary and George Lather, Sr., graduated from Bethlehem High School and was a life long area resident. He worked for John D. Wendell Cadillac and OTB in Delmar as the shop steward for both and also worked with his son's company Bill Lather Painting. Jerry enjoyed fishing, gardening, photography, socializing and summers in Saratoga handicapping the races. He was also an avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan but above all he was a devoted family man who loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Dolores Lather, their children: Barbara (Alban) Molineaux, Michael (Cathy) Lather, Donna (Jerry) Trainor, Diana (Dave) Salak, William (Donna) Lather, Kathleen Lather, Patricia (Dave) Preville, Sheryl (Tom) Kretzler and Carol Lather, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, siblings Mary (Robert) Heslin and Ronald (Nancy) Lather, sister-in-law Joan Lather and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Joseph "Mark" Lather and brother George Lather, Jr.
Funeral services will be held Thursday 8:00am from New Comer Cannon Funeral Home 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie then to Blessed Sacrament Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00am. Calling hours will be Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.
