GUILDELAND – Gerald "Jerry" N. Rieth, 74, passed away on Monday, August 4, 2008 at Ellis Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Jerry, loving husband and father, was born on November 28, 1933 in Gloversville and was the son of the late James T. and Margaret (Stock) Rieth.
Jerry had a career with the Unites States Navy serving on the Ranger, Coral Sea and the Kitty Hawk aircraft carriers. At the end of Jerry's 20 year Naval career, he retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1971. After retiring from the Navy he worked for the US Post Office for 22 years before retiring in 1993.
Jerry was an avid Yankees and NY Giants fan, he enjoyed sharing his Navy stories, watching sports and movies, emailing his family and friends and especially spending time with them.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 54 years (August 5, 2008), Mary Ann (Wille) Rieth; his four daughters, Janet J. (Randy) Saunders of Fairfax, VA, Deborah JR Syron of Glenville, Lisa J. (Timothy) Askew of Delanson and Michele L. (William Jr.) Coons of Guilderland; his grandchildren, Nicholas BR Syron, Trevor JR Syron, Stephen GR Syron, Kyle J. Askew, Gregory G. Askew, William Coons III and Samantha C. Coons; his sisters, Jane (Garry) Meyers of Massachusetts and Barbara Rieth of Gloversville. Jerry is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie (Rt. 155-South of Central Ave.) then to St. Gabriel the Archangel Church, 3040 Hamburg St. Schenectady where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Gerald B.H. Solomon-Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers or donations, Jerry's family would like everyone to spend special time with their families.
