Geraldine R. Sweet

COLONIE, NY – Geraldine R. (Hooley) Sweet, 90, a resident of Colonie since 1954, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009. For the past two years, Geraldine had been a resident at Evergreen Commons in North Greenbush. Born in Buffalo, NY in 1919, Geraldine was the daughter of the late George and Anna Hooley. She was the ninth of twelve children. Geraldine was employed as a food service worker for the South Colonie School District for 23 years before retiring in 1972. She had a special love of her home, gardening and enjoying her grandchildren. Geraldine is the beloved wife of Walter R. Sweet and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Geraldine is the loving mother of Donald R. (Ollie) Sweet of Argyle, NY and Ellen J. (Richard) Britain of Rensselaer, NY. She is the devoted grandmother of Christopher (Stacy) Sweet of Concord, NC, Gregory (Meghan) Sweet of So. Burlington, VT, Jason Sweet of Cornelius, NC, Amy (Chris) Wheland of Troy, NY and the late Susan Britain. Geraldine was the cherished great-grandmother of Samantha, Donovan and Cassandra Sweet, McKenna, Ryan and Braden Sweet and Emily Wheland. Also surviving is her great-great-grandson, Jacob Sweet. Geraldine was predeceased by eleven brothers and sisters: Ruth Wall, Marjorie Dupree, George, Joseph, John and William Hooley, Catherine Reynolds, Anna Ward, Helen Randall, Dorothy Burrell and Jean Schuyler.
Funeral services will be Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. at New Comer-Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave). Calling hours will be Monday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory's Garden, Colonie.
