COLONIE – Gerard G. Pendas, Jr., 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at his winter home in Brenham, Texas after a brief illness. Born in New York City but raised in Albany, he was the son of the late Gerard E. and Anita N. Pendas.

Gerry, who was fondly known to many as "Peepsight" and "Gunny", served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired in 1977 as a Captain with 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked briefly for Guilderland and Rensselaer School Districts. He then retired from the United State Postal Service in 1993.

Gerry was a member of George Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Division in Korea, and 1st Battalion, 7th Marines in Vietnam. Following retirement, he joined the 1ST Marine Division Association and the NY Chapter of the Chosen Few. Gerry was associated with the Saratoga County Council of Fish and Game Clubs, and Adirondack Conservation Council. He was a decorated military hero, receiving two Purple Hearts for being wounded in combat.

In his free time, Gerry enjoyed fishing on Lake Summerville at his winter ranch in Texas, hunting at his camp in the Adirondacks and traveling to Marine Corps reunions around the world.

Gerry is survived by his wife of 30 years, Carol Malone; daughters Ann (Richard) Gaccione of Hilton Head, So. Carolina, Mimi (Jeff) Reyngoudt of Holley, New York, and Debra Pendas of Jersey City, New Jersey; brother Robert W. (Ann) Pendas of Warren County, New York; grandchildren Jackie, Carly, Macy, Lexi, Quinn, Matthew, Rachel, Benjamin, Jonathan, Jacob and Luke, and nieces Judy and Laurie.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 am at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to the 1st Marine Division Association Scholarship Fund 403 N. Freeman Street, Oceanside, CA 92054 in Gerry's name.
