WESTERLO - Gerard T. Gagliano, 66, husband of Ellen Gaddy Gagliano of Westerlo, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a very long, courageous battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born September 22, 1956, in Rockville Centre, New York, he was the son of the late Benjamin J. and Mary E. Morris Gagliano.
Gerard grew up in Mineola, LI, NY, and loved being an auto mechanic working on cars "back in the day" of muscle cars, and his dream car was a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 Fastback CobraJet. He was a jack of all trades and could build or repair almost anything. His wife, Ellen, also grew up in Mineola and they knew each other for 50 years. They would have celebrated 32 years of marriage this December 27th. He loved riding dirt bikes, fishing, and jumping wakes in his Bayliner off the north shore of LI and Lake George.
Gerard loved helping people, and anyone who had the privilege of being his friend knew that he would give the shirt off his back for them. A pure gentleman and unique thoroughbred with a sense of humor to match, he impacted everyone's life who met him. When his medical situation landed him in the hospital and rehabilitation, he was an inspiration to other patients and facility staff loved tending to him because he always had a smile and a joke. Physical therapists admired his constant determination to keep working at maintaining strength.
Gerard loved his family and his dogs, Ginger and Wyatt, and is greatly missed.
He is survived by his sisters Mary Gagliano and Annemarie "Annie" Grayson (Bobby); his nephew Christopher (Lisa), and their two children Mackenzie and Brendon.
In addition to his parents, he was reunited in Heaven with his sister Rosemary, brother Lou and his wife Lorraine, countless friends, and his best buddy Jake.
Visiting hours will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a service to immediately follow at 7:00 pm on Monday, August 28, 2023 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie.
