Colonie- Gertrud Allert, 84, died on Monday, September 12, 2005 at the Community Hospice Inn at St. Peter's Hospital. Born in Germany she was the daughter of the late Erich and Anna Buege. For many years Gertrud worked as a female mail carrier in Germany until moving to the United States with her husband and children in 1956. After arriving in the States she went on to work as a short order cook for Veeder's restaurant until 1961. In 1963, Gertrud took on the position of caretaker at the German American Club on Cherry Street in Albany retiring in 1987 after 24 years. She was an avid gardener, and cake baker, and enjoyed crocheting. Gertrud is predeceased by her beloved husband Gustav Allert, daughter Karin Carrow, grandson Gregory Lieberman, granddaughter Lora Carrow, and two son-in-laws William Lieberman, and Clifford Carrow.
Gertrud leaves behind to cherish her memory five children, Helga Lieberman of Colonie, Peter Buege (Suzane) of Rotterdam, Lou Allert (Dawn) of Rensselaer, Ursula Zeilman (Charles) of Colonie and Jutta Forkel (George) of Colonie, 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her Brother Martin Buege of Germany, her sister Johanna Kroege of Germany, her special cousin Hannelore Fiocca of Philadelphia, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:00 AM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mountainview Ave., Colonie. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at New Comer-Cannon Family Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie (Rt. 155-south of Central Ave.). Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Colonie. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Albany County, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in memory of Gertrud Allert.
