Gertrude A. Leitans, 90, passed away on August 3, 2014 at her home.
Gertrude was born July 22, 1924, in Elmshorn, Germany to Arbeiter and Veronika Pettke.
Gertrude enjoyed strawberry picking, puzzles, her dogs, taking pictures, spending time outside, she loved to travel between Canada and Germany and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Janis "John", several sisters and brothers, her grandson, Scott Nowak.
Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Vera Daley, her grandson, Jeremy Nowak.
She is also survived by many family and friends in Germany and her nephew Jurgen (Marti) Pettke, her great nieces Amy (Bob) Miller and Laura Olevsky.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 440 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205 in Gertrude's memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 20 Sumter Ave., Albany, NY 12203. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at New Comer Cannon Funeral Home, 343 New Karner Rd., Colonie. The parish family of Christ the King Church will gather at 4:30 pm for a service of prayer and remembrance. All are welcome. Iternment will follow the Mass in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Colonie.
